Brown dwarf by JustV23 Brown dwarf by JustV23
It took me some time to set the stage for this scene.
First i was planning to paint picture of brown dwarf visible from one of its planets. But i figured since brown dwarfs emits very little if any light whatsoever, the scenery would be very dark.
So i decided to make it binary star system (Then other star could illuminate the surface of the planet). But to validate that scenery like this would be possible i had to find some info about binary star systems in which one of them is brown dwarf and another a regular star.
Luckily there is some systems including a regular star and a brown dwarf companion.
After that i did some research of how brown dwarf would look like to our eyes, read some info about planetary systems of these dwarfs and after some more thinking i finally started painting this picture.

So here it is! A brown dwarf - failed star dimly glows from inside over one of it's small planet's surface.
The more distant star illuminates scenery and saves a brown dwarfs system from drowning in eternal darkness...

Very nice, I like the color combination:  works very well together, even if it's not your standard palette.

When i try to paint planets, stars, moons, etc. which can or do exist i always try to gather some info.
It helps me to understand and make better guesses how those worlds would look like if you would actually be there.
Or at-least i can make myself believe that I'm not just putting random moons in the sky :D

Yeah they always make my wonder where a Brown dwarf starts and where Gas giants ends. It's really hard to tell sometimes.
Maybe our Jupiter looked more like brown dwarf in it's early days :)

same here :) Jupiter may have been hot like a brown dwarf at one time but it cooled. i wonder if the surface of brown dwarfs look more like Jupiter's clouds or like the sun's convecting surface.

Since i did some research on them now i can say that they have cloud layers similar to Jupiter's.

My brother would have a hard time with this....
he's  partial lay colorblind, so he can't tell between brown and red.

Yes, the distant star is a M type red dwarf. It might be a Gliese 229...
